چکیده

The article discusses the bioethical aspects of robotics in surgery and assesses impact this process on relationship between physician patient. An engineering model is gradually replacing traditional paternalistic physician-patient relationship. If paternalism implies doctor’s attitude to patient as his sick child, which requires compassion, help, great responsibility part doctor, then when implementing second model, like a technical executor, performs only responsibilities provided by job description. [Bioethical aspects in the care of extremely preterm infants].

The survival rate of extremely preterm infants improved over the last years as a result of a better prenatal and neonatal care mainly due to a greater use of antenatal steroids, appropriate management in the delivery room and in the initial care, surfactant therapy, and better modalities of assisted ventilation. However, this improvement in survival has not been associated with an equal reducti...

Robotics in colorectal surgery.

Minimally invasive surgery has been shown to offer many advantages to general surgical patients but has not been widely adopted for colorectal disease. Initial fears surrounding the oncological safety of laparoscopic colectomies have largely subsided but the technical challenges still remain. Surgical robots or telemanipulators present the laparoscopic surgeon with unrivaled dexterity and visio...

Assessing the bioethical integrity of a clinical trial in surgery.

leagues in the June 2004 Canadian Journal of Surgery (volume 47, pages 200–208) nicely takes readers through the process of assessing the value of a randomized clinical trial (RCT) in surgery. These steps are based on the invaluable work of the Evidence-Based Medicine Working Group (EBMWG). Considerable effort has also gone into standardizing reportage of RCTs. Thoma’s article has 35 references...
